Information you should know
when you are going to select a Stallion for shipped semen.
Any questions, please feel free to contact me.
THANK YOU FOR VISITING
Dawn Thayer
Sunrise Farm Paints

Please thoroughly read the contract.  Fill out and return the stallion contract plus the booking fee
and other documents as requested in the contract.
Please let Dawn Thayer ~ Sunrise Farm Paints know the month you want to breed.  We also need
to know if your mare is open or in foal and a foaling date and if you intend to breed on foal heat or
wait until the first normal heat cycle.
Make sure that your Vet is currently doing and comfortable doing reproductive work using cooled
shipped semen.  We do not make referrals.
Have a uterine culture done and your mare checked for reproductive soundness.
Tease your mare. This will only take a few minutes a day and is very important in the reproductive
cycle.
Have your Vet call us if there are any questions.
Please call on the first day of your mares heat and your Vet decides on what day or days he would
like to inseminate your mare.
Sunrise Farm Paints hires Peterson & Smith Equine Hospital OF OCALA FL for all collection &
shipping preparation.  They will be responsible for the condition of the sperm.  Sunrise Farm Paints
will send shipments on the designated days via federal express, USPS or UPS.
Orders for semen MUST be made NO LATER THAN 9:00 a.m. EST the day a shipment is
required to be sent. Please
note that we start collecting at 9:00 a.m. and calls received later than 9:00 a.m. may not be
processed.  48 hours and no less than 24 hours notice is mandatory since we use an outside source
for the collection
~         As a result of our limited shipping abilities we will collect only on Monday through Fridays,
we prefer no weekend shipments (but will at an extra cost  of $280 plus the normal collection fee &
for farm pick up only), so please plan ahead.  Not all Friday shipments can be reach at certain
address but can be delivered to a pick up station on Saturday.  Any same day shipments are an
extra charge of $100.00 IF ARRANGEMENTS CAN BE MADE.  All Airport deliveries are and
extra charge of $150.00.
*Please read below for information concerning Canadian shipments.
Any questions regarding the condition of the semen on arrival, please call Peterson & Smith Equine
Hospital OCALA FL (which ever Service used)
FIRST then Dawn Thayer/Sunrise Farm Paints.
Dawn Thayer will tell you which services she will be using before shipment
(Different Service is used for frozen semen.  HARRIS PAINT HORSES).
We strongly suggest that you use the semen within 48 hours of collection for the best chance of
pregnancy. Keep the semen in the shipping container and in a cold place
away from the sun or any heat until ready to use.   It requires very little semen for the Vet to check
the sperm motility percentage.  This must be done on site once the container has been opened for
insemination by a license Veterinarian and the motility recorded for Dawn Thayer/Sunrise Farm and
Peterson & Smith Equine Hospital OF OCALA FL.  A simple is taken on each collection & saved
by the Service. Please have your Vet fill out the evaluation form and send it back with the container
in a plastic bag.
Be sure to have your Vet check the mare at 18 to 21 days after the last day bred.  An ultrasound
test is the best method to detect pregnancy about 30% of all mares will have false heat cycles when
they are actually pregnant if your mare is not in foal.   We will make additional shipments.
It is a common practice to send enough semen per shipment to inseminate a mare two times during
her heat cycle and most shipping containers are now manufactured to hold two insemination packets
keep the second packet enclosed in the shipping container until used.
Over 90% of your mares will get in foal in their first heat cycle, so on the average you will breed the
average mare for only two cycles.
We do not use a disposable Container. We use the Equitainer 1 shipping container manufactured by
Hamilton Thorn research for shipping cooled semen.  It has proven to be very accurate in the
cooling down process and will maintain its refrigerated condition under adverse conditions. The
Equitainer 1 is a returnable container and a $250.00 refundable deposit is required.  If this container
is shipped to a Vet there will be no deposit.    We ask for the container and all items in it to be
shipped back within the next day after it's use.   You may wish to purchase your own reusable
shipping container. We have customers that do. You can call Hamilton thorn research toll free at
(800) 367-0266 or
(978) 468-4460.
If all items are not shipped back that where in the Equitainer the mare owner will be responsible to
pay for the replacement of those items.
We have a fixed chute/collection/ handling fee of $400.00  per collection (except the first shipment
is included in the stud fee & Canadian shipments)
since we hire an outside source.    The mare
owner will pay the overnight courier charges at the shipping point required at the destination by
Federal Express.  An account can be obtained by calling Fed EX at 800- 468-3339.   Any special
handling, airport or freight deliveries and any other charges  Mare owner will be bill for these extra
charges within 90 days after shipment or prior to shipment.
The stallion service contract, a photo static copy of both sides of the mares registration papers with
the current owner listed and all fees must be on file before semen will be shipped semen is collected
on a designated schedule.  Mondays through Fridays.   We must be notified 2 weeks prior to
shipping & 24 to 48 hours prior to 9:00am central time on the date semen is to be shipped.  You
may contact us the day prior to day of shipping.  All requests for semen shipments shall be filled as
received, subject to availability of semen on your        If there is insufficient semen to fill all orders
on a given day the stallion manager will determine which orders will be honored. This decision will
be based on the information provided by the mare owner/purchasers veterinarian.
CANADIAN SHIPMENTS
NEW CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) RESTRICTIONS
CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) has introduced new, stricter requirements for semen
imported from the US into Canada. These requirements must be met in order for semen to clear
customs. Many breeders in the US are either unaware of these regulation changes or will be unable
to meet the requirements set forth by CFIA. We have been in contact with the Import Officers in
centers across Canada and also with the USDA in order to gain knowledge of these requirements so
that we can effectively serve our Canadian customers. We have extensive experience working with
USDA in exporting semen to other countries and have a good working relationship with our local
USDA office. After many discussions with CFIA and USDA Officers we feel confident that we will
be able to meet your import needs.
As the Importer of the semen you will be required to obtain a PERMIT prior to ordering semen.
This permit should be applied for once you have decided which stallion you wish to breed your
mare to.   You have the choice of applying for a single use permit (which costs $35.00) or a
multiple use permit (which costs $60.00) We strongly urge you to purchase a multi-use permit. This
will enable you to request a second shipment of semen if your mare delays ovulation or needs to be
rebred in 2009 for any reason. If you purchase a single use permit and your vet calls for a second
dose of semen we would not be able to ship that semen without a second permit number. The
multiple use permit may also be used for multiple stallions if you wish to breed your mares to more
than one stallion located in the US.

As the Exporter of the semen it will now be necessary for us to have a health certificate issued for
the stallion whose semen is being exported. Unfortunately, the new requirements mandate that for
fresh cooled transported semen the health certificate must be signed by both our veterinarian and a
USDA veterinarian on the day that the stallion is collected. This will require us to obtain courier
service to take the health certificate to our USDA office which is unfortunately quite a distance
from us. The USDA fee for the Health Certificate and the courier fee will be the responsibility of
the mare owner/importer. We will be charging a flat fee of $375.00 for each Canadian shipment of
semen. This fee will cover the collection fee,  USDA Health Certificate fee, our veterinarian’s
examination fee, as well as the courier fee to have the paperwork transported to the USDA office
for signature and USDA Seal. The original signed and sealed Health Certificate (with your permit
number) must accompany the shipment of semen in order to clear customs.

Due to the time constraints we will face by having our vet in to sign the health certificate and driving
it to the USDA office, it will be necessary for your vet to call to order semen absolutely no later
than
9:00 a.m. (Eastern Time) or preferably the evening prior to collection and shipment.

We regret the extra expense that these new regulations by CFIA will inflict on our customers as well
as the extra paperwork, travel time, etc. it will inflict on our staff. We do, however, understand that
CFIA has established these new regulations in order to protect mare owners in Canada from the
exposure to CEM and we respect their desire to protect their citizens. We are ready to work with
CFIA and USDA officials to make each shipment from us to Canada smooth, stress free and
efficient.
As a courtesy to our customers, we have voluntarily tested each of our stallions for both CEM and
EVA and will be happy to provide negative test results to you or your veterinarian on request.
It is important to us to be able to provide you with the customer service and we hope that this brief
outline of CFIA regulation changes will help you better understand what is necessary in order for us
to provide semen to you. If you have any questions, please feel to either call or email.

Rebreeds
For a mare to qualify for a free rebreeding (stud fee waived only) she must have been on the last
breeders report for that stallion as filed with AQHA,  APHA & PtHA. The owner must furnish
certification from a veterinarian that the mare died or is open and did not have a foal this year.
NO
REFUNDS
on the stud fee.  We also require that the breeding certificate be voided and attached if
you received it before hand. A $50.00 processing fee will be charged to the mare owner. The
collection fee is $400.00.

~
The contractual obligations must be follow and a licensed Vet must perform all procedures or the
stallion owner will consider the agreement null and void (violated).
